Training Tracking Software Benefits

It is an established fact that having a training program can increase employee production and retention. But how you manage your training program is just as important. Using training tracking software can significantly increase the effectiveness of your training by giving you more insight into the results and learning patterns of your employees.

While training in and of itself is beneficial, the real benefit comes from structuring it in a way that allows maximum results from minimal effort. Not only can software help manage training, but it can also help with the initial structuring of a plan.

Establishing a Training Plan

Before you think about generating lessons, courses, training material, etc., it is important to come up with a plan. You want to ask yourself some questions to help structure how training is going to be delivered and what the content of that training is going to be:

  • Who is going to be trained?
  • What do they need to learn?
  • How will they progress through the training?
  • Are there any industry specific certifications necessary?
  • Are you going to reward good performance in the training?
    • If so, what are the rewards going to be?
  • How are you going to communicate your goals to the trainees?
  • How are they going to communicate their experience with training back to you?

These are just some basic questions, you will probably have much more specific ones that you can ask of yourself and your organization to help develop a comprehensive plan. Answering questions like these will be extremely helpful and your training plan may fall into place just from asking pointed questions. But if it does not, then at least you have all the necessary pieces ready to structure a training program.

One of the most important things to keep in mind while developing a training plan are your overarching goals. Do you just want your employees to be able to perform their specific job function? Or do you want them to grow and develop new skills? Do you want to increase retention by providing employees with opportunities to grow?

Once you have your goals and your structure, you are good to start training! And then comes an even more important part of your training program: making sure it is working. While you can try to do this by simply talking to employees, it is much easier to manage and track results with the assistance of software.

Training Tracking Software Options

There are lots of different solutions out there. There are specialized training tracking software options or you can use a learning management system to track training. If you are only going to be using traditional training, then training tracking software is probably the way to go. But if you are planning on having some online components to your training, then a learning management system is ideal for delivering and managing all your training.

Training tracking software is great for managing in-person training, and there are lots of fantastic solutions out there. But nowadays, everyone expects the ability to do work from anywhere and at any time. That’s where online training comes in, and the best tool for that is an LMS (check out our blog post on this subject if you are not sure where to start). Not only can you deliver training with an LMS, but you can manage learners, run analytic reports, and receive feedback all in-system.

Getting Results

Now to the most important part of your training program: getting the actual results. All of this work you are putting in should have clearly defined goals. That allows you to measure what you are doing. And what you can measure you can improve.

Your training tracking software or LMS should be able to produce reports showing how your learners are doing. This allows you to follow up with anyone who is not meeting expectations or needs extra attention. Keeping everyone up to date and addressing issues that arise will ensure you are on the path to success.

Iterating on your training should be easy and simple since you have all the data at your fingertips. Keep honing your training to increase effectiveness and pretty soon your goals will achieve themselves!
